Strong market potential
The HKTDC Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair 2010 builds on the success of the 2009 event, which welcomed more than 5,600 visitors from 80 countries and regions. Over 150 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions took the opportunity to present their medical supplies and devices to the international market through the fair.
The good turnout reflects the growing demand for medical devices and supplies products from more affluent populations at a time of rising health consciousness, plus a growing need for home-based care, especially in Asia. In addition, the Chinese mainland’s Rmb850 billion medical-care system reform plan, announced in April 2009, is expected to increase medical expenditure, creating more business opportunities.
Optimal organisation
The Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair is meticulously arranged around special themed zones to ensure that buyers can find you as easily as possible, saving precious time and effort which can instead be dedicated to valuable business negotiations.
- Tech Exchange is the place to be for innovative developers of medical devices and supplies wanting to link up with businesses which can help commercial operations take off. If you have developed a medical device or product which you believe has strong business potential, this zone will enable you to meet suitable companies and entrepreneurs who can help convert your developments into market-oriented products.
- The Medical Supplies and Disposables Zone helps exhibitors of the increasingly popular medical supplies used by the hospital and home-based long-term care sectors connect with the right buyers. Increasing demand for medical services is creating a surging need for these consumables all over the world, and especially in Asia. Products featured in this zone include gloves, incontinence & stoma aids, and masks.
- Laboratory Equipment Zone is a new zone featuring different types of testing equipment. Since testing and certification is one of the six pillar industries promoted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, this area has huge growth potential. The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification, set up in September 2009, will have a key role to play in promoting the sector, which will offer a variety of business opportunities for industry players. Suppliers of testing equipment can promote products related to Chinese and Western medicine through this special zone.
Bringing in the buyers
The fair is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), which has a long and distinguished history of producing successful trade events. The HKTDC has around 40 offices all over the world and benefits from excellent business connections in many locations. These connections and experience are put to good use through extensive marketing efforts, including direct mail campaigns, advertisements and supplements in trade publications, that reach out to relevant target buyers. The HKTDC will use its numerous and strong contacts from the medical device and service industry to invite key buyers and buying missions with strong purchasing power to the fair.
Exhibitors’ comments
"We are here to promote our Shield Guard antimicrobial coating for stainless steel plate and tubing. We’ve met lots of buyers from countries including Australia, the Chinese mainland, India and Thailand, and received good feedback – for example, we’ve talked with a manufacturer of wheelchairs who is very interested in cooperating with us. This show has definitely been very useful – we’ve learned more about what customers want and need. The seminars and presentations are a great way for companies to introduce their products and technologies. I also like the location of the venue – it’s very convenient in the centre of the city."
Ivan Chin, Manager (Australia Branch), Master Technologic Co., Ltd, Hong Kong "We produce a gastric band for morbid obesity, which causes big weight loss in a short time, through laparoscopy surgery. We export to 24 countries, but so far not to Asia. However, lifestyles are changing, especially in the Chinese mainland, and people are getting fatter, so we thought it was the right time to start marketing our gastric band here. We don’t have any presence here in Asia, so this show is very useful. I can use the fair to make contacts with distributors. The organisation of the event is good and the staff have been very helpful."
Buyers’ comments
"My company distributes medical instruments in the Japanese market and I want to source new products that we can sell in Japan on an exclusive basis. I have found it very useful to attend this fair – medical instruments produced by Asian companies are catching up with the technology in Japan, the quality is good and the prices are also good. I’m happy with the facilities and organisation of the fair, such as the Dragon Lounge. The atmosphere is very professional, and I have been able to conduct serious discussions and negotiations with exhibitors."
"I have been very busy here – HKTDC organised meetings for me with 40 exhibitors in advance of the fair according to my areas of interest. I have seen many products that can be important for my company, such as non-contact thermometers, nebulisers, hospital paper and disposable products, and acupuncture products as well as major pieces of hospital equipment and furniture. I have collected a great deal of information and will prepare orders after I return to Romania. I like this fair, my business will definitely benefit as a result. The organisation is very good."
Other notable events
